Web Designer Day

Mark Hetherington

Since the humble beginnings of the world wide web the evolution of the web and the internet has been immense from basic text websites, to the birth of e-commerce, social media, video sharing, streaming services, the cloud, and online gaming.

From the first official website back in August 1991, (surprisingly it is still around today!, See it here: http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html). Today there are over 30 Billion web pages, that’s enough for nearly 4 web pages for every person on the planet!

Despite the vast variation in type, function and design all of these sites that you visit have one thing in common. They were designed by a Web Designer.

31st May is Web Designer day and is the day to celebrate the unsung heroes of all of those websites that pervade our daily lives, who bring your browsing experience to life with exciting visuals, graphics and layout. So next time you meet a web designer don’t forget to thank them, or buy them a coffee for the work they do making your browsing experience.

With so many websites around and so much information, both real and fake, it can sometimes be hard to spot when you are on a genuine site or not. It is estimated that on average 18,000 fraudulent sites are created daily and that there are over 2 Million phishing sites on the internet. These sites can steal your information, give you Malware and other potentially unwanted programs, viruses and scams.

To help combat the prevalence of these suspicious sites you can report them to the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre (UK), or the equivalent in your country.

You can report a site here: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/section/about-this-website/report-scam-website .

If you need help or advice with your online security posture and what we can do to help you stay safe online, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

So don’t forget to thank your web designers on the 31st May!

Stay safe online.
